What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is a model of healthcare that puts patients first by getting rid of the red tape by which most other traditional practices are restricted by not accepting insurance. We choose instead to work directly with our patients and charge a membership fee keeping our practice small and eliminating the middleman. This DPC structure allows us to spend our time where it really counts–with you!
What if I need medical attention while I’m away from home?
Naturally, we provide such care – yet another freedom we enjoy together as a result of our independence from the restrictions of third-party payment. Because we know you well, we can streamline your care when you’re sick away from home. Many illnesses can be diagnosed and treated with a simple conversation by phone, email, text or telehealth visit. We’ll locate the nearest pharmacy and order the medications most appropriate for your circumstances.
Does Pediatrics at the Park accept insurance?
We do not bill insurance companies for our fees. We do not accept payments from insurance companies to alleviate the sometimes arbitrary, intrusive decisions that may follow with third-party payors. This allows us to have a patient panel in the hundreds instead of the thousands and allowing us to offer personalized, accessible, and individualized care for your child. This direct fee-for-services arrangement frees us from the typical contractual agreements that prevent physicians from offering wholesale prices on laboratory tests, imaging, and medications. Often vaccinations, imaging and some lab tests will be covered by your insurance. We believe the best medical treatment comes from on-on-one interaction, so we’ve eliminated the middleman.
How much does it cost to become a member of Pediatrics at the Park?
Our pricing system is very straightforward – just like it should be. No hidden costs or impossibly complicated invoices. Membership fees are age-specific. As we are limiting the number of total members we have, pricing will change the more members we have. Non-member options are available too.
What can I expect when I become a member of Pediatrics at the Park?
As a Direct Primary Care pediatric practice, we offer in-person office visits, personalized care tailored to your child’s needs, a physician who knows your story inside and out, access to your doctor via text, phone, email, or telehealth visits. When possible, same-day or next-day scheduling, weekend emergency visits, house calls, diagnostic testing and common medications and supplements dispensed in the office. It’s like having a doctor in the family without having to wash our scrubs! Studies show that for the first time in modern history, life expectancy for the next generation is lower than the previous one. The shift is due mainly to modifiable lifestyle and healthcare factors. Our functional medicine approach allows us to tailor your child’s healthcare to their specific needs to reverse this trend. We don’t just treat symptoms. Our goal is to optimize your child’s health physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally so they can be their very best and lead long, joyful and productive lives.
Is my membership to Pediatrics at the Park tax deductible?
Please confer with your tax consultant to clarify tax consequences in your particular circumstances.
Will I still need insurance as a member of Pediatrics at the Park?
No, insurance is not required. Insurance needs are best discussed with insurance and legal specialists. It has been recommended to continue a medical plan should hospitalization or emergencies arise.
Can I contact my physician after hours? And how?
By all means, yes! Because illness and injury do not respect regular office hours, you may call us any day, at any hour as needed. We invite you to arrange for home visits, schedules permitting. If you prefer, you may also use our secure patient portal to contact us and schedule appointments. It’s how we do custom healthcare.
What happens if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?
We seek to prevent or reduce hospitalizations and specialty referrals if at all possible. In instances where this care are required, we will certainly continue to work with your hospitalist during your hospital stay as well as refer and work closely with any specialist.
What type of insurance do you recommend?
We recommend choosing a PPO plan (preferred provider organizations). These types of plans allow us to coordinate your care. Two benefits of PPO plans are: 1) You do not need referrals from an in-network primary provider to see a specialist. 2) Some patients on PPO plans may receive reimbursements from their insurers for the services we provide (subject to the specific terms of each policy). Contact your insurance representative to find out reimbursement rates for out-of-network providers.
